SOBO SLEUTH Authors visit South Boston Elementary School

On August 18th we visited fourth and fifth graders at South Boston Elementary School for a workshop about the process of writing SOBO SLEUTH. Their librarian Nancy Little invited us to visit as part of their back to school RIF program. The students were a wonderful audience and asked us excellent questions. Students particularly connected with Joel and his encouragement to persevere in their journey as readers. Ms. Little reported that many children were encouraged in their own writing and are showing her many stories. Several children suggested that we make our book into a children's play.....stay tuned on that one! We are so pleased to support the terrific teachers at this school. Joel states that his visit to South Boston Elementary school was one of the highlights of his summer vacation in South Boston.

I will be back in South Boston on October 1 st. to do a workshop for the third, fourth, and fifth graders at Cluster Springs Elementary School! Joel will make a special appearance via a prerecorded message!

SOBO SLEUTH gets great reviews from South Bostonians

I returned to South Boston to attend the Parsons-Bruce Art Association progressive dinner. We enjoyed wonderful company and fabulous food from The Molasses Grill restaurant. We had perfect weather as we walked to magnificent historic homes on Mountain RD. I had the pleasure of selling and signing many copies of SOBO SLEUTH. I really enjoyed the positive comments from people who recently gave copies of the book to young readers in their families. Children and adults love the book.

Last night I had the pleasure of attending a terrific show at The Prizery Theatre in South Boston. Suds was thoroughly entertaining. The Halifax County Little Theatre put on a wonderful show. Many of us enjoyed dessert at The Bistro after the show. It was fun to talk to the performers after the show.

Next, on the list for SOBO SLEUTH is for us to come back on Third Thursday event in June or July. Main Street merchants begin a celebration every third thursday with live music and special events on Main Street. Joel and I will be featured at Parsons-Bruce at one of these evenings. It should be a lot of fun. This town is an amazing place. The people are so friendly. Spring is beautiful here.

Back from our visit to South Boston!

We had a wonderful visit to South Boston. Evan enjoyed paintball in N.C. and Joel got some archery time in! We all enjoyed sitting on the front porch reading and star gazing at night. The weather was spectacular. Many trees are now in bloom and the gardeners are ready to get to work!

Joel and I had the opportunity to meet with Wendy Fuller. She is writing an article about our book SOBO SLEUTH for a local paper. We are happy to report that book sales are off to a great start. We signed many books destined for Easter baskets. The books are on sale at the Parsons-Bruce Gallery and Three Women and No Truck, both of which are located right on Main Street.

I enjoyed a terrific dinner with Tim at Molasses Grill in Halifax. Karen Schopen, from Molasses Grill, sold copies of SOBO SLEUTH at her restaurant this weekend. Thank you Karen for your support! I am looking forward to coming back to South Boston later this month!

SOBO SLEUTH now in print!

Attention, attention!

My new book, entitled SOBO SLEUTH, is now in print!
Sales of this charming children's mystery book will support the Parsons-Bruce Gallery in South Boston, Virginia. The gallery provides funding for arts education for elementary school children in South Boston, Virginia in Halifax County. My son Joel and I wrote the book together and my Father-in-law Daniel Ziembo did the illustrations. Young readers will enjoy this chapter book: it makes a wonderful gift and includes a kid's guide to South Boston's family fun and history.

"Nine year old Joel loves mystery chapter books! He read his way from one end of the mystery section to the other at his elementary school library
Joel is known in his family as "The Watcher". He notices things, small things that busy people usually miss.
Imagine his surprise as he and his artist Grandfather, D.Z. find themselves in the middle of a small town mystery! Before long, they become a grandson-grandfather crime solving duo as they get to know the people and history of South Boston, Virginia."
